We Have The Best Facilities
WAKA offers various extra-curricular activities throughout the school year for our students to participate in! Here are just a few examples of the activities that have been offered at WAKA:
New campus Vision
COMPUTER LAB
Our Computer Lab is a new IT Learning Lab which enables us to build on the strengths of traditional classroom based learning by taking advantage of cutting edge educational applications such as Waterford Early Learning, Mathletics and Infini-D Learning’s spaceship simulator.
READING ENRICHMENT (LIBRARY)
Reading and exploring literature is one tool we can use to enhance second language skills and foster a love of learning.
At WAKA we have moved from the centralized library concept to regularly updating our in-class book selection.
All classes have a dedicated reading area and students are able to explore reading, reading behaviors, and shared learning at their own pace.
Teachers use the classroom library to enhance understanding of themes being studied, to foster reading and book care behaviors as well as to encourage the children to explore their imagination and knowledge.
COOKING STUDIO
Cooking can help young children learn and practice some basic math concepts and build language skills. The experience of creating meals can help build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits.
As part of our health and nutrition focus at WAKA we use the cooking studio across all year levels to explore healthy eating, to introduce new themed units, to enhance and deepen understandings and to introduce students to the world of cooking.
COOKING STUDIO cont'd
Children are notoriously picky eaters, and bringing them into the studio to cook can help get them to open up to new tastes. We encourage our students to taste new ingredients and talk about what they like and how healthy foods make a body grow. Children learn by exploring with their senses and the studio is an ideal place to do that. Preschoolers love to show what they can do and working in the studio provides opportunities to gain a sense of accomplishment.
CURRICULUM
We use the International Early Year Curriculum (IEYC) and the UK-standards International Primary Curriculum (IPC) with a values-based approach to academic, physical, emotional, and social development.
INTERNATIONAL EARLY YEAR CURRICULUM
The International Early Years Curriculum launched in 2016 for children aged 2–5 years old. It is used by over 140 nurseries and early year settings, in 47 countries worldwide. The IEYC uses international best practices, holistic inquiry, and play-based approaches that cover all curriculum areas including personal, social, and emotional development.
INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY CURRICULUM
The IPC uses an inquiry based approach to learning which provides “real-life” as well as role playing situations for students to gain practical and experiential knowledge intertwined with research and skills development. We see each student as a unique individual with specific needs, goals, and dreams for the future. Students and teachers work in partnership to explore learning through a theme based approach. The IPC focuses on Knowledge (what we already know), Skills (concerned with abilities [I am able to]) and Understandings which are developed as we acquire new knowledge and skills. students.
Namibian curriculum with added IPC for enrichment.
Working towards IB, Cambridge and field work accredited.
The International Primary Curriculum (IPC)
The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is used more than 1,800 schools in more than 90 countries around the world and it has been developed to focus on four major goals. They are:
SUBJECT GOALS
To help children learn the subject knowledge, skills and understanding they need to become aware of the world around them (adaptability, thoughtfulness)
PERSONAL GOALS
To help children develop the personal skills they need to take an active part in the world throughout their lives (resilient, self-motivated learners)
INTERNATIONAL LEARNING GOALS
To help children develop an international mindset alongside their awareness of their own nationality (global, moral, ethical, citizens)
ENQUIRY AND RESPECT
To do each of these in ways which take into account up-to-date research on how children learn as well as how to encourage them to become life-long learners (enquiry, respect).
Our Students
As an International School, WAKA upholds HIGH Student attributes which refer to five highly desirable habits in learning representing a combination of values, attitudes, motivation, empathy, knowledge and skills. These attributes are based on self-awareness and an understanding of the processes of learning and teaching, not just the outcomes. The Student attributes are focused on learning as an activity.
WAKA STUDENTS ARE

Responsible for themselves, responsive to and respectful of others.
